The Tarot Bible: The Definitive Guide to the Cards and Spreads (Paperback)

I admit this: i am a sucker for books and i have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge as i firmly believe in the saying “Knowledge is Power”. So when i got hooked on tarot and reading tarot cards not so long ago, i read reviews and look for books which will enhance my knowledge in the art of reading tarot cards.

I am a visual person which basically means that books must be kinda brightly colored and beautifully illustrated to attract my attention (my attention span is very short). As a matter of fact, i think books which introduce newbies to the art of reading tarot cards should be as beautifully illustrated as possible, as tarot cards are so beautifully designed. Imagine reading a black-and-white book which teaches you about reading tarot cards and succeeds very well in making you fall asleep, while the tarot cards are, on the other hand beautifully designed and meant to capture your attention. What an irony! :)

The Tarot Bible: The Definitive Guide to the Cards and Spreads

If you are a newbie and would like to look for a reasonably priced introductory book for reading tarot cards, i feel that “The Tarot Bible: The Definitive Guide to the Cards and Spreads” by Sarah Bartlett is actually a good read. First of all, the book is fully-colored, which had made me interested enough to read the book from back to back.

Let’s get down to the basics. The most effective way to get started on a subject of interest is not to get overwhelmed by it. I feel that there’s no point in getting a 800 pages thick book only to be scared off by the intensive content and think that you will never get to the end of the book. This is the worst way to get started on a subject: in this case, reading tarot cards.

A more effective way to gain knowledge in reading tarot cards is actually to start easy. Get a gist of what reading tarot cards is all about. Only when  you feel that you know a little about reading tarot cards and would like to find out more will i suggest moving on to a more difficult yet more complete books on reading tarot cards. More of those books later but at this stage, especially if you are a complete newbie, a travel size book on reading tarot cards may be your best bet.

A quick review on Tarot Bible

The Tarot Bible is a 400 pages book with intense coloring (which i love!) and decribes what Tarot is, what it does and gives a concise summary on the history of Tarot.

The best part about this book is that miniature for each Major and Minor Tarot cards have been thoughtfully scanned into the book, enabling the reader to bask in the glory and grandness of the intricate drawings of the tarot cards. Some of the more popular tarot decks such as the Rider-Waite Tarot are also discussed in this book.

The author had put herself in the shoes of a tarot newbie and provides advice on how to choose a tarot deck for oneself and has also touched on other topics of interests to newbies, such as formating of a question and a step to step guide on how to read the tarot cards.

Another topic of interest to tarot newbies is tarot spreads and Sarah has provided a no-fuss approach by touching on the more common and popular tarot spreads. You will be amazed at the amount of information the book touch on in the aspect of tarot spreads. Everyday spreads, destiny spreads and relationship spreads are just some of the tarot spreads the book has touched on. In fact, this was the very reason why i had purchased the book. I had wanted to purchase a reasonably priced book which can answer my queries on tarot spreads and suffice to say that i had learnt much from the tarot spread section in this book. :)

All i can say is, if you really want to get started on reading tarot cards, get an easy to understand and helpful book to provide you with a kick-start in reading tarot cards. I believe this book shouldn’t disappoint you, as it didn’t disappoint me. :)
